Are you interested in Church history and architecture? This four-day program will introduce you to selected Church treasures in Central Moravia. You will have the opportunity to discover pilgrimage sites and learn about spiritual life and works of art that are part of the country's cultural heritage.

International Organ Festival

The International Organ Festival is held each year in the Church of St. Moritz in Olomouc, home to one of the largest organs in Central Europe. The organ was built in 1740-1745 by Michael Engler; as the result of a government ruling the original organ was renovated and enlarged in 1759-1791. Numerous musicians from around the world perform at the festival.

The Autumn Festival of Sacred Music

First held in 1994, the Autumn Festival of Sacred Music has become an important part of music life in Olomouc. The festival has been organized under the auspices of the Olomouc Archdiocese since the very beginning; the City of Olomouc and the Olomouc Region are co-organizers. The program is chosen annually from the rich heritage of famous artists of all nationalities, including contemporary music with a spiritual orientation.

Feast of Song

An international festival of singing groups founded by choir masters Karl and Jiří Klimeš in 1972. The festival is the largest of its kind in the Czech Republic. Originally featuring performances by children's groups, the festival has grown to include ensembles of all ages and types. Tens of thousands of singers from 40 countries have participated since the beginning of the festival.

Easter knocking

A traditional Easter custom lasting from Holy Thursday to Easter Sunday in which boys promenade through towns making noise with various clappers and knockers.

Midnight Mass is a Christian tradition and a reminder of the night vigils that were originally held before all important Christian holidays.

breakfast at hotel at 8am; tour of Olomouc Church monuments (Archdiocesan Museum - permanent exhibits familiarize visitors with the spiritual culture of the Olomouc Archdiocese; the picture gallery features paintings collected by the Olomouc bishops beginning in the 16th century; treasury. St. Wenceslas Cathedral - the Gothic cathedral from the 13th century is one of the most beautiful churches in the country. The Archbishop's Palace - seat of the archbishop and an important early Baroque Moravian building. The Church of the Virgin Mary of the Snow - a Baroque Church from 1712; St. Jan Sarkandr Chapel - a Baroque chapel built in the first half of the 18th century, originally the prison where St. Jan Sarkandr was interrogated and tortured; Church of St. Michael - a Baroque church from the 13th century designed by G. P. Tencalla and D. Martinelli; The Church of St. Moritz - one of the most precious late Gothic structures in Moravia; a true treasure housed in the church is a copy of the 15th century Late Gothic sculpture Christ on the Mount of Olives; the organ from 1745 is the largest in Central Europe); free program

Basilica Minor of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary (destination) 10:30 - 11:30

tour of basilica on Svatý Kopeček (Basilica Minor of the Visitation of Virgin Mary - pilgrimage church from 1669-1679; in 1995 the church was elevated to the status of basilica minor by Pope John Paul II)

Šternberk (municipality) 12:00 - 17:00

lunch; tour of Augustinian monastery and castle in Šternberk (parish Church of the Annunciation of the Virgin Mary - the greatest treasure in the church is the stone sculpture known as the Šternberk Madonna located in the centre of the altar; Augustinian Monastery - the 18th century building was decorated by outstanding Moravian Baroque artists - painter Jan Kryštof Handke and sculptors Filip Sattler and Jan Kammereith; Šternberk Castle - a Gothic castle founded after the middle of the 13th century)

return to hotel; free program

Day 4

Dub nad Moravou (municipality) 09:30 - 10:30

tour of church (the pilgrimage Church of the Purification of the Blessed Virgin Mary - the church was built by the architect Klíčník in 1734-1755 and has been a destination of pilgrims who come to worship the painting of the Virgin Mary of Dub for over 200 years)

Lipník nad Bečvou (municipality) 11:15 - 13:30

tour of bell tower (the late Renaissance structure with a crenellated top was built in 1609); lunch

Hranice (municipality) 14:00 - 15:00

tour of Church monuments in Hranice (Kostelíček/Small Church - a popular pilgrimage site that includes a cemetery with 14 Stations of the Cross shrines, a late Renaissance gate, the early Baroque Chapel of St. Anthony of Padua, and the Church of the Birth of the Virgin Mary with the Mary Magdalene Chapel)
