Military Monuments

Olomouc used to be an important centre of military defence as preserved objects of the bastion and fort fortress show. Many of the parts of the Imperial-Royal Olomouc Fortress are open for the public. The remains of military fortification are also in other historic cities of the Central Moravia.

The fortress is one of the best preserved parts of the imperial fortification system of Olomouc, and its history dates back to 1850, when Emperor Franz Josef I. and the Russian Tsar Nicolas visited the construction site.

Fort XXII is part of the preserved fortress system around Olomouc. It was constructed according to a project by Colonel Julius von Wurmb in the second half of the 18th century.

This well preserved and coherent part of the former bastion fortress of Olomouc, with a Baroque powder house and the remains of an Empire-style guardhouse, was built in the period 1754-1756.
