Caves and Abysses

Three unique cave systems can be found in the Central Moravia: in Mladeč, Javoříčko, and Teplice nad Bečvou. The Javoříčko Caves are one of the most beautiful in the Czech Republic with rich cave formations. The Mladeč Caves rank high among the most important archaeological localities as probably the oldest, largest, and northernmost settlement of the Cro-Magnon people in Europe. The Zbrašov Aragonite Caves are the warmest caves in the Czech Republic with stable temperature of 14 °C. The Hranice Abbys which is the deepest in the world lies nearby.

Some of the most beautiful caves are located in the Špraněk Protected Nature Area. Parts of these three-storey caverns, which have not yet revealed their full mystery, were discovered in 1938 after arduous crawling; difficult exploration of other rooms continued in the 1950s.
