17.02.2012
A thirty-kilometre route taking in all the Olomouc Forts will serve both walkers and cyclists from the beginning of this year's tourist season. The nature trail, called "A trip around the constructions of the Imperial-Royal fortress of Olomouc", will introduce not only forts but also other military buildings, such as redoubts, powder-houses, or military water-wells. Each of thirty places will be designated with an information sign and a special code that will allow people to load an internet presentation into their mobile phones.
At the beginning of the tourist season, a new exhibition should open in the powder-house of the Crown Garrison that will commemorate the history of military matters in Olomouc. The premises of the Crown Garrison will, as usual, host various cultural and social events. The artillery depot house will be massively renovated and transformed into an interactive museum of natural sciences.
A new exhibition of historical weapons, military equipment and uniforms from the period 1848-1968 is being prepared in the fort in the Nová Ulice neighbourhood.
For the next winter seasons some new routes for joggers and cross-country skiers will be prepared around the fort in Radíkov.
Military history exhibitions can also be seen in the fort in Křelov, which will also offer a number of social events for families with small children in the summer season.
